JOSH MATTISON is a former lot of things: Video store clerk, museum front desk guy, record store clerk, jazz and classical percussionist, Kinko’s copy jockey, bike courier, graphic designer, band drummer, zine maker, and many other things. Most pertinent to this though, he’s been making audio projects in some form or another since 2012. He’s the creator of several podcasts, two of which have even won awards! In 2017 he created Low Orbit (formerly Denver Orbit) the worlds only audio zine. In 2019 as a bit of a break, he created and co-hosted along with Shannon Geis, the true crime limited documentary series The Order of Death. As a producer, composer, sound designer and editor, Josh is most interested in exploring unusual histories, philosophical ideas and artfully made audio. He is currently attempting to combine all of those things in a new series called Doomsday Daydreams. He lives in Denver with his endlessly patient and supportive wife, two amazing children and a couple of cats who are probably criminals.

Low Orbit is an audio magazine featuring voices, stories and sounds from any creative community. It features a wide variety of documentary stories, memoir, fiction and non-fiction pieces, poetry, music, comedy, even the odd avant-garde soundscape from time to time. Westword magazine called it the Best Podcast in Denver in 2017 and wrote about our recent mini-series Blackout: Time Passes as well.

The Order of Death is a limited documentary podcast about the 1984 murder of Denver area talk radio host Alan Berg by a white supremacist group known as The Order. The documentary was released in fall of 2019 and went on the win the Best Crime Podcast award in Westword magazine in 2020.

OTHER WORK:  Josh has created work for several museums both here in Denver and in New York City. In 2018 he was the associate producer on the podcast documentary A Daughter’s Voice for the Clyfford Still Museum. This project was a companion to the exhibit A Daughter’s Eye. It won a Bronze Muse award from the American Association of Museums.

He interviewed, edited and sound designed a series of pieces for the MoMA in New York. This work is available to hear in their app or on their website. It’s meant to be heard while you look at the corresponding piece in the museum.

He recently made some similar pieces for MCA Denver for their exhibits Dyani Whitehawk: Speaking to Relatives and Eamon Ore-Giron: Competing With Lightning.

He’s done tape syncs for Campside Media, BBC Radio , 99% Invisible and others.
